The CIMEEP is an ambitious project that forms part of a wider research goal with broad dimensions : the consolidation of a group of international centres and individual researchers of different nationalities and from different fields of knowledge. within which which the center of interest is, broadly defined, the epos. This term is understood as a set of cultural productions that are the result of a continuous and interlinked process of transmission over time. They comprise works which integrate socio-cultural identity withinfictional, historical and mythical genres and , in particular, epic poetry. The group will also treat hybrid epic forms and the various languages in which the epos is composed and translated. Although the modus operandi of the research-based CIMEEP’s intent and structure is most evident in literary works known as “epic poetry" , range and extent of the epos extends beyond particular achievements in this genre, which touches on most aspects of human - existential experience. Furthermore, the content of the epos is inherently multidisciplinary: thus it may also involve the fields of Anthropology, History, Geography, Sociology, Philosophy, Education, Religion , Arts , Communication , etc. . We envisage, therefore, a multidisciplinary dialogue within areas such as Humanities, History, Social Science , Philosophy , Education , Communication , Geography , Fine Arts and Design , Music , etc.
Further considering the central theme of the epos, it is worth bearing in mind that periods of apocalyptic often produce cultural manifestations of the epos, epic poetry (as well as readings in other modalities that comprise this genre, such as the Visual Arts, Cinema , etc. . ) Therefore, in each era the epos involves ahistorical and cultural reassertion of identity, especially national identity. . Also, the particular location in which the epos is specifically set entails a reading and re-reading and within the parametiers of each particular culture. Thus, it is imperative that the epic text continues to be circulated, re-read, re-interpreted as is happening in the contemporary age with, for example, America epic cinema. From this interchange of texts, different languages , reading and rereading , the epic genre fulfills its mission to exemplify the epos of a society. For this reason, academic criticsm and interpretation of this genre also plays an important role in creating and disseminating academic and cultural spaces for reflection and research on the perennial epic quest for human presence in the world.
It is also important to observe that epic production has now ceased to be a stronghold within a canonical elite or a privileged sphere within global cultures. It is also a means of expression of minority cultures (actually, in reality “majority cultures” within the global population.) . Today the epic production is no longer restricted to the classical tradition and the European context , largely produced by male authors accorded the privilege of high literary compositions . In the contemporary age, the epic is now a literary force within developing and Global South nations. It forms an important space, and means of expression of the cultural, human and social reality of the populations of those nations.
In addition to this, a strong and flourishing academic community dedicated to criticism and academic reflection on the epic genre. A prominent example is the "Desirs & debris au XXe siècle d' Epopee " event organized by Saulo Neiva , at the Université Blaise Pascal, Clermont- Ferrand (France) in 2005. There is a continual stream of news of reserach projects and events of this nature from Portugal, France , Germany , Italy, USA , Canada, Mexico , Senegal, among others , also boasts a similar representative number of research investigations into the epic genre,, space for consolidating and disseminating discussions on the theme is lacking. Thus we envisage discussion in a research center which will act as a base for reuniting national research, acquiring library resources in a systematic way, and expanding opportunities for debate. The Center will open doors for research conducted in other countries to the Brazilian academic community. The initial configuration of CIMEEP founded by 28 members from three continents, has exemplified its truly international character from the outset.
In conclusion, therefore, the CIMEEP will become a centre of reference for studies of the epic on a local and global level. Based in the Federal University of Sergipe it will enable access to representative scientific and literary production that integrates the Brazilian Northeast and its human and cultural landscapes is is located within a region, together, we envisage to knowedge and reserach from all corners of the globe. We will bring together and act as a focal point for the contemporary multiplicity of research on the epic in both the national and international academic community and a symbolic assertion of the foundational and key importance of the epic genre in Brazil, and national culture and identity.

Physical and virtual structure
The Centro International and Multidisciplinary for Epic Studies of Universidade Federal de Sergipe Federal y of is based in its own room on the São Cristóvão campus, with the objective of offering internal and external researchers and undergraduate and graduate students of Letters and other courses linked to it, a space for small meetings, as well as access to information and bibliographic material, since one of the objectives of CIMEEP will be to form, little by little, its own collection, which will include epic national and foreign productions, in addition to theoretical and critical productions about the epic genre. There is also space on the Itabaiana / SE campus for research that houses CIMEEP.
In addition to the material physical space, CIMEEP, through its website, disseminates the production of its members, news about academic and cultural events, dissertations and theses defended, launch of epic works, and other topics that will be added based on the contribution of participants of the RGs that will integrate the center.
REVISTA ÉPICAS was created as part of the CIMEEP virtual space, a digital scientific magazine that, every six months, will launch a new issue.
